Dear friends and fellow colleagues,
With your great support, I was successfully elected as the representative of the tourism sector in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo) in 2012.
To keep my promise, I worked full time in the LegCo and adhered to my principles of voicing out for members of the industry, fighting for members’ rights and resolving dilemmas, serving the public, and supporting the Government to administrate lawfully and effectively. In the past four years, I have spoken and raised questions for 139 times in the LegCo meetings, achieved an average attendance rate of 97% in various meetings, participated in over 40 LegCo redress meetings, and handled more than 300 complaints and inquiries from members of the industry as well as the public. Meanwhile, I also attended different media interviews and explained the problems faced by the tourism industry from a professional perspective. With the generous support and assistance from members of the industry, gradual achievements were made for many problems that have drawn the public's attention. Such areas included:
Successfully Strived For
• Exemption of license fees for travel agencies and hotels
• Allocation of additional Government funding for two consecutive years to promote tourism
• Improvement of coach parking arrangements in some tourist areas
• Financial support for the industry to make better use of information technology
• Review of the calculation criteria for fuel surcharges by Civil Aviation Department (CAD)
• Reduction of airport construction fee by the Airport Authority
• The Government’s early issuance of Red Outbound Travel Alert in view of "New SARS" cases in South Korea
Achieved with Effectiveness
• Urged the Government to stop the legislation for standard working hours and cancellation of the MPF hedging mechanism
• Requested the future Travel Industry Authority (TIA) to increase the proportion of members from the tourism industry
• Objected the Airport Authority to substantially increase the charge for airlines to park their flights at the apron.
• Simplified the approval procedures for hotel license
• Supported the construction of the airport’s Three Runway System (3RS) at the earliest possible time
• Strongly set against Occupy Central and filibuster activities
