Express Rail Link (XRL)
With rapid development of National High Speed Rail Network, the XRL is expected to cover up to 30,000 kilometers and reach out to more than 80% of the major cities in mainland in two years, thereby bringing forth opportunities to the tourism industry. Before the opening of the XRL in Hong Kong, the "Guangzhou- Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (Co-location) Bill" (Co-location Bill) had to be examined and passed in the LegCo. I actively participated throughout the examination process and explained the pros and cons from the perspectives of the industry and the public interest; supported the Co-location Bill and helped with its passage.
On 23 February 2018, I attended a meeting of the Committee for the Co-location Bill
In order to provide members of the industry understanding on the operation and ticketing arrangements of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link West Kowloon Station in advance, I actively recommended the Secretary for Transport and Housing to arrange station visit for members of the industry. The initiative was well-supported, and the MTR later arranged multiple on-site visits and exchange activities.
To address the common concerns of the industry concerning booking arrangements of group and individual tickets, I met with Ms. Jeny Yeung, Commercial Director of MTR, Ms. Linda So, Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Raymond Yuen, General Manager of Marketing and Planning, Ms. Carmen Li, General Manager of Intercity and others on 8 November 2017 and exchanged ideas on specific operations. Later, I further raised requirements on different occasions based on the suggestions of industry members.
Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge
As the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) will soon be put into service, I have organized two visits to Zhuhai and one on-site inspection in Hong Kong to further inform the industry with the current situation of the Bridge. Meanwhile, I am also concerned about the parking arrangement of non-franchised bus pick-up services and tour groups at the Bridge. In the LegCo, I urged the Government to implement effective policies, so as to avoid congestion at the boundary and surrounding roads.
On 18 May 2018, I attended the meeting of the Panel on Transport – regarding the HZMB
Kai Tak Cruise Terminal
Since the opening of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, traffic arrangement have become a major concern for the public. I have repeatedly discussed the relevant issue with Government departments and the terminal operator and strike to resolve the problems of back and forth travel arrangements, thus ensure smooth traffic in the surrounding areas. To tackle the low utilization rate of the Tourism Node, I hope the Government will actively look for appropriate operators to start develop tourism related projects and make the most out of the piece of land.
On 18 July 2018, I attended the Finance Committee Meeting - regarding the Cruise Terminal Hub and financial matters of Disneyland.
In January 2018, I inspected the parking slots for coaches, catering facilities, and Tourism Node of the Cruise Terminal with Dr. Bernard Chan, Under Secretary for CEDB, and members of the industry
On 16 January 2018. I met with a group led by Ms. Kara Yeung, Executive Director of Hong Kong Cruise and Yacht Industry Association, and exchanged views on how to reinforce cooperation between the cruise yacht industry and travel agents, promote outlying island tours to cruise passengers, optimize training of the cruise and yacht industry, refine licensing arrangements and attract the younger generation to devote the cruise and yacht industry
The Airport Three-runway System (3RS)
The construction of the 3RS is in full swing. During the construction period, the Airport Authority (AA) shall regularly report to the LegCo and the Government will apply for funding from the LegCo for installing equipment for air traffic control, meteorological services, fire and more. For the interests of the public and the industry, I put forward a number of recommendations at various meetings regarding the operation of the AA and the aforementioned facilities.
