Following the sharing session with the Alliance for Barrier-free Tourism (the Alliance) last year, in July this year, I was invited again by the Alliance to attend a sharing session on promoting barrier-free tourism. In order to make the session more effective, I invited Hon Frankie Yick, LegCo Member for the Transport Constituency and director of the AA, and representatives of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD), AA and China Hong Kong and Macau Boundary Crossing Bus Association to join me in the sharing session. The sharing session focused on the discussion of shortcomings of the barrier-free facilities at the airport, air traffic and cross-boundary buses in Hong Kong, and we made practical suggestions at the meetings on improvement measures. The CAD and the AA have agreed to follow up on the issues. The participating members scheduled another sharing session six months later to review the progress. With more disables traveling abroad and the ageing population in local society, bettering barrier-free tourism facilities can encourage more people to travel and enjoy the life by experiencing different countries and regions.
