By actively maintaining close communication, I have gathered numerous appeals from members of the industry and further reflected the appeals to the Chief Executive, Financial Secretary, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, the Tourism Commission and the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), etc., through different occasions.

 

 

The Government and relevant authorities have already implemented some measures for the tourism industry. I shall continue to follow up and strive for implementation of more measures.

Some friends of the industry reported to me earlier that they noticed some misreported video clips were being circulated overseas in an attempt to defame and discredit the image of Hong Kong. In response to this concern, I sent a letter to Mr. Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, in order to express our concern about this matter while hoping that the government could seriously address the issue.

 

 

 

 

 

Many friends in the tourism industry reflected that due to the recent social instability, their business volumes have plunged over the past few months. With the rising difficulties in business operation, they hope that I can help send a letter soliciting owners to reduce the rents in order to help them cope with the difficult times. I have prepared a sample letter to owners, which can be used by travel agents in need.

 

 

 

 

2019/9/24 - Met with Mr. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government in accompany of consultant Mr. Perry Yiu and submitted proposals on how the Government can further support tourism-related industries. On the same day, I also met with Mr. Joe Wong, Commissioner for Tourism, and exchange views on means to further support the industry. We also discussed ways to collaborate with other related industries in bringing about recovery after the social situation has settled.

 

 

With the violent demonstrations that have continued in Hong Kong over the past months, the number of tourists visiting Hong Kong has fallen sharply, making the operation of travel agents increasingly difficult. In view of this situation, I organized "The Symposium for Small and Medium Enterprises in Tourism" on 3 October 2019 and invited Mr. Edward Yau Tang-wah, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, and representatives from the Tourism Commission, TIC, Employees Retraining Board, Trade and Industry Department, Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited, and Bank of China Hong Kong, etc., to explain the support measures for travel agents in different fields. The attendees of the symposium enthusiastically asked questions and expressed opinions on different issues.
