MR YIU SI-WING (in Cantonese): President, we learnt from the Secretary's reply that currently the area of C&E venues in Hong Kong is only 160 000 sq m, which presents an obvious disadvantage compared to Shanghai, Singapore and even Shenzhen. Notwithstanding the future demolition of the government buildings in Wan Chai North and redevelopment of the site into C&E facilities, as well as the construction of C&E facilities above the Exhibition Station of SCL, which are only 38 000 sq m in area combined, I find the current efforts insufficient to satisfy the future development needs. If no more additional C&E venues are to be provided, the competitiveness of Hong Kong will be affected and Hong Kong will be surpassed by neighbouring cities. May I ask the Secretary, apart from the site in Wan Chai North and the space above SCL, if the SAR Government will continue to locate more sites to increase the supply of C&E venues, including immediate planning of the AsiaWorld-Expo Phase 2? It has a site of 530 000 sq m. What are the Secretary views in this respect?

SECRETARY FOR COMMERCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (in Cantonese): Deputy President, I thank Mr YIU for his supplementary question. As I pointed out in my main reply, the authorities are rousing themselves to catch up now. In addition to the redevelopment project of the three government buildings in Wan Chai North, which will be integrated with the existing HKCEC, the authorities will continue to explore opportunities in other aspects to expand C&E venues, including the projects mentioned by Mr YIU just now. However, expansion takes time. Therefore, the authorities will adopt a multi-pronged approach. I have also mentioned in my main reply that the authorities may need to make some choices and determine the positioning. For example, we will focus on developing C&E activities which will bring greater economic and development benefits to Hong Kong and also expand the existing ancillary facilities aside from venues for C&E activities, such as hotels or other facilities. In this regard, the authorities subsidize HKTB's efforts dedicated to exploring other development opportunities.
