Immediate Measures to Prevent Importation and Local Outbreak of Zika Epidemic (2016/02/03) -  (Supplementary)

MR YIU SI-WING: President, learning from the experience of issuing OTA on South Korea in the MERS case, the authorities have been relatively comprehensive in considering the possible risk caused by Zika virus in overseas travel, which has facilitated the public and the sector in gaining further understanding of the situation. In the main reply, the Secretary says that he will maintain close communication with the tourism sector and other stakeholders to understand the latest situation. In view of the possible change of the virus, will the Secretary contact the sector further in future to understand the latest situation? Since some of the tour groups have already departed, the tour guides will have a better understanding of the local situation, and if there is further contact, particularly during the Chinese New Year, what arrangements will the authorities make?

SECRETARY FOR FOOD AND HEALTH: President, be it during the Chinese New Year period or other time, we will definitely maintain close communication with the tourism sector. As I said earlier, regarding the some 20 tour groups which have already departed or will soon leave Hong Kong for the relevant areas, the CHP has not only contacted the TIC direct but also contacted the relevant individual travel agents. By now, it has directly contacted 19 travel agents. Certainly, we will continue with the work in this respect. As for the next step, we will arrange for meetings with the various stakeholders of the tourism sector in a systematic and official manner. I have to thank Mr YIU for the reminder.
