  • Request to increase parking spaces for coaches

There has been a serious shortage of commercial parking spaces in Hong Kong, especially the parking spaces for coaches continued to decrease. In view of the problems, I conducted several site-visits to understand the situation. At the meeting with the Panel on Transport, I asked the Authority to try to formulate measures in order to increase parking spaces according to the market needs, especially at tourist attractions.

  • Simplify the application procedures for hire car permits

Many travel agents have reflected to me about the difficulties they encountered when applying for hire car (travel services) permits, such as long approval time, additional cost for buying a car in advance, and a lack of transparency in the application and approval criteria.

To this end, I invited Mr. Reginald Chan, Assistant Commissioner of the Transport Department, and other representatives to attend a seminar on 23 February, 2017 in order to answer various questions related to applying for hire car (travel services) permits. The Transport Department agreed to relax the rules and expedite the approval process. In order to save operating costs for members of the industry, it was also agreed that applicants no longer need to buy a car at the time of lodging the application for the permits.
