Promoted Resumption of Travel between Hong Kong and Mainland China , Health Code and Travel Bubble

In fact, the support measures introduced by the Government were just a drop in the bucket. For the tourism industry is to revive and survive, gradually resuming normal immigration arrangements when the epidemic is under control seemed to be the only way. This year, I have reflected the industry's demands for resumption of travel between Hong Kong and mainland China at two of The CE's Question and Answer (Q&A) Sessions. In order to draw attention in the public, I also took media interviews frequently on topics such as resumption of travel between Hong Kong and mainland China , "Health Code", and "Travel Bubble".

In the radio programme of "The Millennium (千禧年代)", I recommended the Government to consider launching a "Hong Kong Health Code", which is in line with the Mainland in terms of epidemic control and administrative arrangements. Such an idea could help promote resumption of travel between Hong Kong and mainland China .

As Singapore no longer aimed at achieving "Zero-COVID", the "Travel Bubble" arrangement between Hong Kong and Singapore officially came to an end. I told the media that the preferred location for resumption of travel is the Mainland, and I hoped that the Hong Kong Government could discuss with the Mainland on the flexible conditions on resumption of travel between Hong Kong and mainland China.

It was disappointing to know that Macau has extended resumption of travel conditions from 14 days without local cases to 28 days. I hoped there could be clear guidelines on such arrangements.

March and June 2021
Apart from hanging banners in all districts throughout Hong Kong that said "Urging the Government to resume travel between Hong Kong and mainland China as soon as possible in order to save the tourism industry", I also called on citizens to get vaccinated so as to create favourable conditions for resumption of travel.

In the Q&A Session of the LegCo, I asked the CE whether it was difficult to discuss resumption of travel with the Mainland and if it was possible to discuss conditions and timetable for resumption of travel with the Macau SAR Government first?

In the CE's Q&A Session for the "2020 Policy Address", I asked the CE if she would actively discuss with Guangdong Province in establishing a set of mutually recognized basic guidelines on resumption of travel and a mechanism for mutual recognition of "health codes" so that Hong Kong can resume travel with the Mainland as soon as possible.
